Stories From the Clark Fork:
a short film about the Clark Fork River and community connection
The Clark Fork River is located in western Montana, starting in Butte, Montana and ending in Lake Pend Oreille in northern Idaho. As the river flows through Montana, it is used for agriculture, ranching, and the recreation industry. It is significant to Indigenous peoples near the river, as well as supports a diverse ecosystem surrounding the water.
Historically, the river has faced degradation and pollution by heavy metals from mining near the headwaters in Butte. This has impacted everything downstream, from the river to the people and ecosystems on the banks and beyond. We are interested in exploring how these impacts have changed people's connection to the river and how this has affected their lives.
This documentary-style film gives us insight into the lifestyles of people dependent on the river. Through interviews and stunning imagery, we get a sense of the importance of this river- to the people and the ecosystem.
